Description:

This site, created by faculty and students of the University of Southern Mississippi, can be a starting point for activities from elementary to high school or college levels. It presents text and images of 16 different versions of the fairytale from the English speaking world in the eighteenth, nineteenth, and early twentieth centuries. The texts can be read one version at a time or section by section for comparison.

How You Can Use This Source:

  • Read and compare all the versions to choose your favorite and least favorite - and tell about your choice in a paragraph or short essay.
  • Research how the time, location or the type of publication may have affected the story line. How would the story be retold today?
  • Select another fairytale and research your local library or the Internet for different versions of it.
