Sharpening stones, also called water stones or whetstones, are used to sharpen cutting tool blades. Natural and synthetic stones are available in a variety of shapes for sharpening scissors, knives, razors, and chisels. Select sharpening stones according to grade, which is based on the stone’s grit size. Larger grit sizes are ideal for material removal while finer grit sizes produce smoother finishes on the workpiece.
