What are Hydraulic Accumulators?

A hydraulic accumulator is a specific type of hydraulic storage reservoir. Hydraulic fluids are stored inside these accumulators, and these fluids are then exposed to external forces of mechanical energy.

There are multiple forms of hydraulic accumulators, including tower accumulators that take a similar form to water towers, as well as raised weight hydraulic accumulators, air-filled accumulators, compressed gas hydraulic accumulators, and spring type hydraulic accumulators. Each of these varieties has its own unique design, but they all have the same general objective and end result of providing efficient energy storage.

What do Hydraulic Accumulators do?

Hydraulic accumulators are essentially energy storage devices, used for storing incompressible hydraulic fluids. They involve an external source of mechanical energy, like a spring, engine, or weight, which helps to keep the system under a certain level of pressure. There are many benefits to this. For example, an accumulator can be used to maintain levels of pressure during periods where the hydraulic system may have slight leaks, and it can also help the system cope with temperature changes that could also affect pressure levels.
